Russia’s top military leadership has announced that its campaign of large-scale strikes against Ukraine will continue into the coming months, with offensive operations set to remain the central focus, Army General Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the Russian General Staff and commander of Russia’s joint forces in Ukraine stated on August 30.

“The execution of tasks by the Joint Grouping of Forces will continue by conducting offensive operations. Today we will clarify the tasks for the groupings of troops on the directions for the autumn period,” he said

He claimed that during the spring and summer of 2025, Russian forces carried out strikes on 76 sites, which he described as “Ukrainian military and defense industry facilities.“ Gerasimov also alleged that joint operations with the FSB targeted enterprises involved in the development of Ukraine’s Sapsan” missile program.

The general asserted that Russia holds the “strategic initiative” on the battlefield, adding that its forces will maintain pressure in the autumn campaign.

Ukraine has not confirmed the Russian claims regarding the scale of damage to its defense industry, but Kyiv has consistently emphasized that many such strikes deliberately target civilian infrastructure.

Earlier, it was reported that Russian forces launched a massive overnight air assault—comprising nearly 540 drones, eight ballistic missiles, and 37 additional missiles—across multiple regions of Ukraine, causing widespread damage to residential and critical infrastructure.
