Russia launched a deadly airstrike on Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region early on August 6, killing at least two civilians and injuring 12 others—including four children—in a targeted attack on a local resort facility, according to regional officials. The strike is part of a sharp escalation in Russian assaults across the region over the past 24 hours.

Russia launched an early morning airstrike on Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region, killing at least two people and wounding 12 others, including four children, according to Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration head Ivan Fedorov on August 6.

“Buildings were damaged by the airstrike. We know of at least three people injured,” Fedorov initially stated.

Shortly afterward, he confirmed the death toll had risen to two, with 12 people wounded.

“Among the injured are four children. At least nine buildings were damaged in the airstrike,” Fedorov added.

Nine people remain hospitalized in serious or moderate condition.

Fedorov added that Russian forces launched at least four strikes targeting a resort facility in the Zaporizhzhia district, likely using high-explosive aerial bombs (FABs).

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES) later confirmed that the attack took place around 6:00 a.m. and struck a vacation complex in a local settlement.

Rescue workers evacuated vacationers and transported the wounded to medical facilities. Emergency crews are currently extinguishing fires that broke out in nearby outbuildings and vehicles. Nine single-story vacation cottages were damaged in the attack.
