The number of victims from Russia’s overnight missile and drone strike on Kyiv has risen to 28, including three children, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES) reported on August 1.
“Overnight and into the morning, rescue workers recovered 10 bodies from the rubble of a residential building in Kyiv’s Sviatoshynskyi District, including that of a 2-year-old child,” the SES said in a statement.
UPD. As of 10:39 a.m., the death toll from the Russian airstrike on Kyiv on July 31 increased to 31 people, reported Kyiv’s Military Administration Chief Tymur Tkachenko.

As of the morning of August 1, a total of 159 people were reported injured, including 16 children. Psychologists from the emergency services have already assisted 112 individuals.
“More than 2,000 tons of debris have been removed from the site. Some 180 rescue personnel and 60 units of heavy equipment are involved in the operation. Recovery efforts are ongoing,” the SES noted.
Kyiv’s Military Administration Chief Tymur Tkachenko later confirmed that the death toll had risen to 28. “Rescuers have recovered one more body from under the rubble,” he wrote.
The victims include three children—ages 2, 6, and 17. At least 159 people were wounded in the attack, 16 of them children.
The residential high-rise in the Sviatoshynskyi District suffered a partial collapse after it was struck by a Russian cruise missile. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 70% of the destroyed structure had been cleared as of the morning of August 1.

The overnight strike on Kyiv, launched on July 31, involved a massive combined aerial assault: Russia launched 309 attack drones and eight Iskander-K cruise missiles in one of the most intense barrages on the capital to date. Dozens of damage reports were registered across multiple districts.
In response to the tragedy, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko declared August 1 a Day of Mourning in memory of those killed.

“Tomorrow, August 1, will be observed as a Day of Mourning in Kyiv to honor the victims of the enemy’s massive assault on the capital,” Klitschko announced.
All flags on municipal buildings were lowered to half-mast, and authorities urged both state and private institutions to follow suit. Public entertainment events were also suspended for the day.
Earlier, Meaghan Mobbs, daughter of US Special Representative for Ukraine Keith Kellogg, commented on Russia’s recent large-scale drone attack on Kyiv, stating that Russian leader Vladimir Putin is “testing America’s resolve and strength.”
