Ukrainian Miltech Sector Expands Output Through New High Precision Guided Aerial Bomb Initiative

BlueBird Tech, a Ukrainian defense company previously known for its "Bebradrone" UAVs and electronic warfare systems, has announced a new partnership to develop and mass-produce domestically manufactured guided aerial bombs.
The initiative, which involves collaboration with one of Ukraine’s leading scientific and engineering design bureaus, aims to bolster the country’s high-precision strike capabilities in response to the ongoing challenges presented by Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, according to Defense Express on June 1.

The company stated that its decision to enter this sector is a direct response to the battlefield environment.
"Russia uses hundreds of guided aerial bombs every day. Ukraine must respond no less effectively. We see strong demand for such systems and understand how important they are in modern warfare. Therefore, our first priority will be to start mass-producing Ukrainian-made guided aerial bombs," according to a statement from BlueBird Tech.
While the company previously made headlines in late April 2026 for its ambitious goal to develop a domestic air defense system modeled after the Patriot to intercept ballistic threats, this new project leverages specialized expertise in missile engineering.
By partnering with an experienced design bureau, BlueBird Tech aims to bridge the technical gap in creating advanced munitions that can be deployed effectively from the air.

Technical experts suggest that the integration of rocket engineering into this project could lead to the development of powered munitions. Similar to the French-made AASM Hammer bombs currently utilized by the Ukrainian Air Force, such weapons could potentially employ rocket boosters to extend their operational range.
This capability would allow Ukrainian pilots to strike targets from lower altitudes, significantly reducing their exposure to Russian air defense systems and aircraft.
Although the specific design and technical parameters of the future bomb remain undisclosed, the project is already in the practical phase. Engineers from both entities are currently working on initial design challenges.

The collaboration is supported by productive communication with Ukraine’s defense and security agencies, which have signaled a strong interest in acquiring such high-precision, domestically produced armaments to scale up national strike power.
Between 2025 and 2026, Ukraine’s miltech sector made a significant leap forward as dozens of companies began producing advanced weapons that were tested in real combat against the Russian army. In just a few years, the industry grew fiftyfold in monetary terms alone.
