Russian Attack on Kryvyi Rih Damages Schools and Homes, Leaving At Least Four Dead
A Russian missile strike on January 17 in Kryvyi Rih has caused significant damage to an educational institution and residential buildings, according to the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration and Hromadske.
Authorities have confirmed four deaths, including three women and one man, with seven others injured. One of the victims, a woman, was killed in her car by shrapnel. The announcement was made on January 20 through the Regional Military Administration’s official Telegram channel. In response, the city has declared January 20 a Day of Mourning to honor the victims.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenksyy commented on the Russian strike saying that “Russia is not stopping on its own – it can only be stopped by joint pressure. The pressure of everyone in the world who values life.”
An air raid alert remains active, and residents are advised to stay in safe locations until it is lifted.
On January 16, Kyiv’s air defenses intercepted a drone during security talks between President Zelenskyy and Keir Starmer near the Mariinskyi Palace. Debris from the downed drone struck a car in the area. Zelenskyy vowed a strong response, saying, “We will say hello to them too.” Starmer commented on the attack, calling it “a reminder of what Ukrainians face every day.”
