Russian Bombing of Zaporizhzhia Industrial Area Causes Massive Fires, At Least 13 Dead and Tens Injured
UPD: At least 13 people confirmed dead in Russia’s attack on Zaporizhzhia and tens are injured.
Russian forces launched a strike on an industrial site in the Zaporizhzhia region on January 8, killing at least one person and injuring 30 others.
This was reported by Ivan Fedorov, the Head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration.
Seven medical teams, along with police and emergency responders, are currently working at the site of the strike.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned Russia’s attack on Zaporizhzhia using aerial bombs and expressed his condolences to the families of the killed victims.
“There is nothing more cruel than launching aerial bombs on a city, knowing that ordinary civilians will suffer,” Zelenskyy wrote on X. “Russia must be put under pressure for its terror. The protection of lives in Ukraine must be supported.“
“Russia has once again revealed its true nature as a terrorist state by launching yet another barbaric attack on the civilian population of Zaporizhzhia. This heinous crime has already resulted in confirmed deaths and injuries,“ the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets commented on the attack.
The Ombudsman emphasized that the shelling of civilians is a war crime, and those responsible must be held accountable in international courts.
“I urge the international community to go beyond mere condemnation of these acts of aggression and take decisive action: impose new sanctions, provide Ukraine with more defensive resources, and support all efforts to hold Russia accountable,“ Lubinets added.
