Russian Drone Hits Elderly Couple’s Home in Polish Village Amid Airspace Violations, Reuters Reports

A Russian drone struck the house of an elderly couple in the village of Nadrzecze early hours of September 10 as they were watching television coverage about drone attacks, according to Reuters article published on the same day.
The pensioners escaped unharmed, though their home sustained serious damage. “I turned on the TV, and all the news was about this massive drone flight, and after a while, I heard a plane flying over… and suddenly something boomed, the light fell from the ceiling in the downstairs living room,” homeowner Tomasz Wesołowski told Reuters. “I ran out into the yard, and I saw the whole roof in shreds, everything was destroyed.”
Local authorities stressed that no one was harmed in the incident, noting that both residents were safely evacuated and received medical checks as a precaution. Officials said the couple did not require hospitalization and were placed under temporary care by family members.

The strike occurred amid a larger wave of overnight incursions in which at least 19 Russian drones crossed into Polish territory during attacks on Ukraine. Some were intercepted by NATO aircraft, while others crashed after losing control.
Warsaw has since invoked Article 4 of the NATO charter, calling emergency consultations among allies. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg emphasized that the alliance “remains vigilant and fully committed to protecting every inch of allied territory.” Russia’s Ministry of Defense denied responsibility, claiming its drones do not have the range to reach Poland.
Earlier, it was reported that photos of Russian Gerbera drones recovered in Poland revealed added flexible fuel tanks in the nose—modifications not seen on Gerbera drones downed in Ukraine—suggesting the existence of a special long-range variant tailored for strikes on NATO territory.
