Russian Drone Strike Kills 8-Year-Old Child and Two Adults Overnight in Ukraine’s Sumy Region

A late-night Russian drone strike on the Sumy region killed three civilians, including an 8-year-old boy, the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Oleg Klymenko, confirmed on June 24.
The attack occurred just after midnight when Russian forces targeted the village of Verkhnosyrovatka in northern Ukraine’s Sumy region using drones.

“An enemy drone strike claimed the lives of people from different families. All of them lived on the same street. They went to bed in their homes, but Russian drones ended their sleep forever,” Klymenko said.
Emergency crews pulled the child’s body from the rubble of a destroyed home. Two other civilians also died in the strike, while three more were rescued from the ruins—one of them in critical condition, and three more people were injured in the strike. All survivors were hospitalized.
On the night of June 24, Ukrainian air defense neutralized 78 drones out of 97 launched across Ukraine: enemy hits were recorded in 6 locations, the Ukrainian Air Force reported.

Multiple private residences were severely damaged in the attack, regional authorities said.
Earlier, two civilians were killed and 11 others injured—including four teenagers—when a Russian Lancet drone struck the outskirts of the village of Novi Borovychi in Ukraine’s Chernihiv region.
