Russian Forces Accidentally Hit a Residential Building in Russia’s Belgorod With a Shahed-136 Drone, Video
On November 5, a Russian Shahed-136 drone struck a multi-story residential building in Belgorod, Russia.
The incident, captured on security footage, was later analyzed and shared by a Russian Telegram channel, revealing clear images of the distinctive Shahed-136 drone with its characteristic blunt-nosed fuselage and triangular wings.
Initially, the regional governor attributed the strike to Ukrainian forces. However, Russian media examined the footage, identifying the drone’s design as consistent with the Shahed-136 drones that Russia frequently uses in strikes on Ukrainian territory.
Additionally, the drone’s flight path, coming from a direction within Russian borders and heading towards Ukraine, supports the theory that it was a Russian-operated drone.
The exact cause of the strike remains uncertain. Potential explanations include a technical malfunction or possible errors in the drone’s programmed flight path. Observers also noted a dark cloud near the drone before impact, suggesting it may have been intercepted by Russian air defenses. The rapid descent of the drone further supports this possibility.
This incident is one of several involving unintended strikes on Belgorod by Russian forces. The city has previously experienced accidental hits from Russian-launched glide bombs, with the most notable case in April 2023 when two 500-kilogram bombs dropped on the city.
Such incidents are frequent, with an average of 10 to 15 accidental strikes per month due to Russian air force operations.
Belgorod, located roughly 40 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, has experienced multiple incidents of strikes from Russian forces throughout the war.
