Russian Forces Capture Ukrainian Positions in Vidrodzhennia and Novotroitske, Advancing in Pokrovsk Direction

Russian forces launched attacks on Ukrainian fortifications west of Vidrodzhennia and south of Novotroitske in the Donetsk region. As a result of prolonged fighting, two Defense Forces positions were destroyed, and one was lost.

This was reported on December 11 by Lieutenant Colonel Nazar Voloshyn, spokesperson for the Operational Strategic Group Khortytsia, on the national telethon.

“The enemy attacked our fortifications in the Pokrovsk direction, west of Vidrodzhennia and south of Novotroitske. As a result of prolonged clashes, two of our positions were destroyed, and one was lost. Efforts are currently underway to restore the positions,“ said Voloshyn.

Additionally, he stated that fighting continues on the southwestern outskirts of the village of Shevchenko, where Russian forces are attempting to fortify their positions and infiltrate with sabotage and reconnaissance groups

"I want to emphasize that the strategic defensive operation conducted by the Defense Forces aims to exhaust the enemy to the maximum, destroy their resources, and, accordingly, preserve our personnel. Therefore, it is crucial to halt the enemy as much as possible and stabilize the frontline," added Voloshyn.

The Pokrovsk direction in the Donetsk region has been the ground for the most active hotspots on the frontline for months, hosting the highest concentration of Russian forces.

Pokrovsk is a critical logistics hub for Ukraine’s military in the east and a home to Ukraine’s sole domestic supplier of coking coal, vital to its steel industry.
