Russian forces executed five captured Ukrainian soldiers in Vuhledar in the Donetsk region.

According to operational data, on October 2, 2024, Russian servicemen stormed the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near the city of Vuhledar. During the offensive, Russian forces captured five unarmed Ukrainian soldiers.

One of them was killed in a forest belt, and four others were taken out to the road at gunpoint and also shot dead.

Under the procedural leadership of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation has been initiated into a criminal proceeding on the fact of committing a war crime that resulted in the death of people.

The killing of prisoners of war is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and is qualified as a serious international crime.

In October, the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) has reported a rise in the executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russian military forces. Their latest reports suggest that Russian commanders may be permitting, encouraging, or even directly ordering these acts.
