A drone that entered Lithuanian airspace from Belarus was found at a military training ground, Lithuania’s Minister of National Defense Dovilė Šakalienė confirmed, according to LRT on August 1.

Preliminary assessments suggest the drone is a Russian "Gerbera"—a decoy model visually similar to Iranian-designed Shahed drones, used to deceive air defense systems.

The Lithuanian Armed Forces reported that the aircraft was discovered during a search operation launched after the incursion was first detected.

“However, the data will still be reviewed, since the aircraft was found during the drone search. It will be checked for any potential danger, and then the same procedures will be followed as with the first Gerbera incident in early July,” the military stated.

Commenting on the discovery of the drone at the Gaižiūnai training ground, acting chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Mindaugas Sinkevičius, suggested it could be a “provocation.”

“I see it either as a provocation, because Gaižiūnai training ground—well, that says something. It indicates that not everything is working properly, considering how long the search took,” Sinkevičius said during a press conference following the LSDP board meeting.

Earlier, Lithuanian officials confirmed thta an unidentified drone likely crossed into Lithuanian airspace from Belarus on July 28.

Local residents reported spotting what appeared to be a drone in the sky early Monday morning.
