A long-range drone strike has reportedly hit the Orsknefteorgsintez oil refinery in Russia’s Orenburg region, some 1,400 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, according to Andrii Kovalenko, head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, on October 3.

Footage from the scene shows thick smoke rising from the facility, accompanied by explosions. Russian outlets reported that an evacuation had begun at the site, though officials have not confirmed the extent of damage.

“An oil refinery in Russia’s Orsk is under attack,” Kovalenko wrote.

The refinery, one of the largest in the southern Urals, has a designed processing capacity of 6.6 million tons of crude per year.

It produces gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, fuel oil, bitumen, and lubricants—making it a key asset for Russia’s domestic supply chain.

Preliminary assessments suggest the strike may have been carried out with Ukraine’s AN-196 Liutiy long-range attack drones, known to be used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine for deep strikes against Russian military and industrial infrastructure.

Earlier, drones struck the Tynhgovatovo oil pumping station near the village of Konar in Russia’s Chuvash Republic, according to statements from regional officials.

The facility, located about 950–1000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, is part of the Kuibyshev–Tikhoretsk pipeline, which delivers crude oil to the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk.
