Explosions Rock Strategic Oil Facility in Occupied Crimea Amid Drone Threat

A major fire has been reported at an oil refinery in Feodosia, located in Russian-occupied Crimea. Thick smoke was seen rising from the facility on September 29.
According to Russian media ASTRA, the incident was confirmed by Oleg Kryuchkov, an adviser to the Russian-installed authorities in Crimea. He stated that the fire was caused by a violation of welding safety procedures.

The report notes, however, that shortly before the fire, Russian officials had announced an air alert across Crimea and warned of unidentified drone threats. Maritime traffic and movement across the Kerch Bridge were temporarily suspended.
The Feodosia refinery and oil storage base play a key role in supplying fuel to both Russian military forces and civilian infrastructure in Crimea.
The facility is managed by the company “Morsky Oil Terminal” and has a transfer capacity of up to 12 million tons per year. Its storage capacity reaches approximately 250,000 tons of petroleum products.
Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the site has been repeatedly targeted in air strikes.
Earlier, on October 7, a Ukrainian strike ignited a major fire at the Feodosia oil depot in occupied Crimea. The blaze burned for at least three days, severely damaging one of the peninsula’s key fuel supply hubs.
Local reports indicated widespread smoke, strong fumes, and growing concerns over fuel shortages, as officials warned the facility’s destruction could disrupt military and civilian logistics across the region.
