Russian Shelling Hits Kherson Hospital, Injuring Three Nurses and City Worker

Russian forces shelled a hospital in the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson on Friday, wounding three nurses and damaging the facility’s intensive care unit, according to local authorities on January 9. 

The Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported that three nurses were wounded while they were inside the medical facility. Prosecutors said the strike occurred at about midday and that a pre-trial investigation had been opened into alleged war crimes.

Kherson City Military Administration head Yaroslav Shanko said a shell hit a city hospital in the Dniprovskyi district.

About an hour later, authorities reported that Kherson came under another round of shelling that injured a city infrastructure worker, a 60-year-old employee of one of the municipal enterprises overseen by the Kherson City Council.

The man was diagnosed with blast injuries and shrapnel wounds to his back and was hospitalized for treatment.

Earlier, it was reported that Russia deliberately targeted Kyiv’s boiler plants in a large overnight attack, knocking out heat in half the city and damaging critical energy infrastructure.
