According to Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, Russian forces have recently intensified assault attempts along the border area, though these do not indicate a broader offensive toward the regional capital.
“Assault attempts by the enemy are taking place in the Sumy region. The key point is that this is not an offensive on Sumy. These are mostly attempts by small assault groups in the border area,” he said.
Kovalenko noted that during one such attempt, a group of 29 Russian soldiers tried to reach the rear positions of Ukraine’s 71st Air Assault Brigade by advancing through a gas pipeline.
The entire group was detected and destroyed, the unit reported.
Earlier, the Atesh partisan movement reported a sharp deterioration in morale among Russian troops operating on the Kupiansk axis, citing mounting losses and internal breakdown within units.
