Russia’s Terror Shows Putin's Rejection of ‘Christmas Ceasefire’ Proposals, Says Ukrainian FM
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha believes that Russia’s latest large-scale attack on Ukraine demonstrates Russia's unwillingness to accept proposals for a ceasefire.
“This Christmas terror is Putin’s response to those who spoke about illusionary ‘Christmas ceasefire,’“ Sybiha wrote.
On Christmas morning, December 25, Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine, deploying drones and missiles, primarily targeting the country's energy infrastructure. Currently, several regions are experiencing power outages.
“One Russian missile passed Moldovan and Romanian airspace, reminding that Russia threatens not only Ukraine,“ Sybiha added.
Previously, on December 11, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Russian leader Vladimir Putin discussed the prospect of peace in Ukraine in a phone call.
Orbán claimed that he had made new efforts for peace in Ukraine by proposing a Christmas ceasefire and a large-scale prisoner exchange that was allegedly rejected by the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Ukraine’s Presidential Advisor Dmytro Lytvyn commented on the situation, stating that “ the Hungarian side did not inform us [Ukraine] about its contacts with Moscow. As always, Ukraine did not authorize Hungary for anything.”
