Ukrainian drone operators have destroyed a Russian Tor-M1 air defense system in the temporarily occupied Donetsk region after a dramatic engagement in which the system shot down two incoming drones before being overwhelmed.

Footage of the strike was released on April 9 by Robert “Madyar” Brovdi, commander of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, showing the sequence of events as the air defense system attempted to fend off the attack.

In the video, the Tor-M1 successfully intercepts the first Ukrainian strike drone, followed by a second. However, the system appears to run out of missiles before a third drone reaches its target and destroys the launcher.

According to Brovdi, the destroyed Tor-M1 marks the ninth Russian air defense system eliminated in the first nine days of April.

“It escaped from grandma and grandpa , but it didn’t escape the Birds of the Unmanned Systems Forces. Tor-M1 in the occupied Donetsk region. Ninth air defense system destroyed in nine days of April. It fought back as best it could… The sky is getting clearer from this worm air defense,” he said, commenting on the footage.

Additional footage shows the same engagement, with the Tor system firing multiple missiles at Ukrainian FP-2 drones before ultimately being struck.

Earlier, Ukrainian National Guard pilots from the 23rd Brigade of the Khortytsia operational grouping destroyed a Russian Pantsir-S air defense missile and gun system deep in the enemy rear.
