Ukrainian National Guard pilots from the 23rd Brigade of the Khortytsia operational grouping destroyed a Russian Pantsir-S air defense missile and gun system deep in the enemy rear, according to ArmyInform on April 7.

ArmyInform reported that the strike was carried out by pilots from the 23rd Brigade “Khortytsia” of the National Guard of Ukraine, who detected and then destroyed the system in a rear area behind Russian lines.

“The approximate cost of such a system is about $15 million. This is not only lost equipment, but also direct financial losses for the enemy that cannot be quickly compensated,” the brigade wrote in a caption to the video.

The outlet noted that the Pantsir-S is estimated to cost about $15 million, making the strike both an operational and financial loss for Russian forces.

Its destruction removes another element of Russia’s air defense network and reduces the enemy’s combat capabilities, the caption added.

The destruction of the Pantsir-S also comes amid a wider Ukrainian effort to systematically degrade Russian air defense assets as Ukrainian drone units destroyed more than 40 Russian air defense systems during March, targeting radar and missile-defense assets across temporarily occupied territory.

The reported toll points to a concentrated campaign against the systems Moscow relies on to detect threats and shield its forces from aerial strikes.

The latest report builds on earlier indications that Ukrainian unmanned units were systematically hunting down high-value air defense equipment rather than only frontline targets.
