The satellite imagery, published by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty journalist Mike Eckel on X, shows the aftermath of the attack attributed to Ukrainian drones.
According to the image, all warehouse buildings within the storage compound were destroyed. Several craters are visible in areas used for open-air storage of munitions, and signs of fire damage can be seen in the surrounding area.
Engels-2 is a key strategic airbase that houses Russia’s long-range bomber fleet.
Earlier, Ukraine’s Armed Forces confirmed a successful strike on Russia’s Engels Airbase, targeting a storage facility containing Kh-101 cruise missiles used by Tu-95 and Tu-160 bombers.
According to Ukraine’s General Staff, the operation, carried out by Special Operations Forces and the Security Service of Ukraine, resulted in massive explosions and secondary detonations. OSINT analysts identified the strike location, with evidence suggesting the destruction of an ammunition stockpile rather than a fuel depot.
Engels Airbase hosts Russia’s strategic bombers, which have launched numerous missile attacks on Ukraine. The confirmed destruction of Kh-101 missiles may impact Russia’s future strike capabilities.
