The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia issued a statement on February 14 commending the phone call between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin on February 12. The statement highlighted the announcement of the possibility of a summit between the two leaders to be hosted in Saudi Arabia.

The Kingdom indicated its readiness to host the summit, stating, "The Kingdom expresses its welcome to hosting the summit in Saudi Arabia, and reaffirms its ongoing efforts to achieve lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine, which began with the outbreak of the Ukrainian war where His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, expressed in his calls on 3 March 2022 with both Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Kingdom's readiness to provide its good offices to reach a political solution to the crisis."
Saudi Arabia also emphasized that over the past three years, it has continued these peace efforts, including hosting numerous meetings aimed at finding a political solution to the crisis.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced that he expects to meet Russian leader Vladimir Putin, with their first face-to-face meeting likely to take place in Saudi Arabia.
