Sébastien Lecornu, Pro-Ukraine Politician, Named France’s New Prime Minister After Government Collapse

Sébastien Lecornu was appointed France’s prime minister on September 9, just 24 hours after the Bayrou government was censured, La Croix reported.
A former Minister of the Armed Forces since May 2022, Lecornu is known as a hands-on politician with close ties to local officials and experience in international affairs, LaCroix writes.
Lecornu has previously stated that a well-armed Ukraine will be a crucial element in Europe’s future security architecture.

Speaking at the Paris Defense and Strategy Forum on March 11, Lecornu emphasized that Europe must dismiss any calls for Ukraine’s demilitarization. He reaffirmed France’s stance, stating that the country “will not support any demilitarization of the Ukrainian army.”
Earlier, he confirmed that France has offered to share intelligence with Ukraine when Washington had paused its intelligence cooperation with Kyiv, Lecornu said in an interview, reported by France 24.
