Second Drone Incursion in a Week Shuts Down Aalborg Airport in Denmark

Aalborg Airport in Denmark, which handles both commercial and military flights, was forced to close for several hours on the morning of September 25 after drones entered its airspace, Denmark’s national police reported, according to Reuters on September 25.
North Jutland Police said that “more than one drone” was spotted flying near the airport with lights on. The drones remained in the area for around three hours, creating a prolonged disruption. According to law enforcement, the incident followed a pattern similar to the drone activity that shut down Copenhagen Airport just days earlier.
Officials emphasized that there was no immediate threat to passengers or residents in the Aalborg area. However, three flights were diverted to other airports as a precaution.

Police added that they have not been able to identify the type of drones involved or determine whether they were the same models that appeared over Copenhagen Airport earlier in the week. Attempts to shoot down the drones were unsuccessful, and no suspects linked to the launch have been detained.
“It is too early to say what the goal of the drones is and who is the actor behind,” a police spokesperson stated.
Later in the day, authorities confirmed that drones were also sighted near airports in Esbjerg, Sønderborg, and Skrydstrup. The Skrydstrup facility is a critical airbase that hosts both F-16 and F-35 fighter jets, underscoring the potential security implications of the incursions.
The Danish Armed Forces announced that they are supporting both local and national police in the investigation but declined to provide additional details, citing the sensitivity of the case.
Earlier, major drone incidents were reported in Denmark. In Copenhagen, all flights at Kastrup Airport—the country’s largest—were suspended after multiple drones were spotted in the vicinity.
