Germany’s largest companies have no plans to return to Russia, even if the war in Ukraine ends and sanctions are lifted, Deutsche Welle reported on March 11.

One of the world’s largest machine tool manufacturers, the German company Trumpf, told DW that it permanently left Russia in April 2024 and is “not considering a return under any circumstances.”

At the same time, representatives of Metro stores and lubricant manufacturer Fuchs, which continue operating in Russia, stated that they have no plans to change their business approach.

The news agency added that Volkswagen also stated that it has no plans to return to the Russian market. Bosch noted that, at this stage, the company has no such plans and that it is “too early” to discuss the possibility.

“We cannot speculate about the future, but there are no plans for any involvement in Russia at this time,” Siemens stated. Before its exit, the company employed around 2,700 people in Russia, with a turnover of €834 million in 2021. Siemens left the Russian market after 170 years of operation in the country.

Earlier, Denmark’s government introduced a legislative proposal aimed at significantly increasing penalties for violations of EU sanctions against Russia. The bill, currently under review, seeks to impose stricter punishments, including extended prison sentences, for individuals and businesses that circumvent restrictions.
