Spain is providing $946 million in assistance to Ukraine and aims for $1.16 billion in annual security support, including $249 million for air defense and surveillance equipment through the European Commission’s SAFE instrument, according to Militarnyi on November 18.

The funding is part of a broader package announced during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Madrid, under which Spain will provide about $946 million, including about $712 million in military aid by year-end and approximately $232 million in reconstruction credit.

Zelenskyy thanked Spain for its continued military support since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, saying after talks with Sánchez: “Spain helps our defense, and I am especially grateful for the decision on HAWK systems.”

The Ukrainian president’s office stated that Spain is preparing a new $347 million defense package, which includes 40 IRIS-T missiles. Zelenskyy added that cooperation with Spanish manufacturers on long-range radars “can significantly strengthen us.”

Earlier, it was reported that Spain is exploring the possibility of supplying Ukraine with advanced radars and electronic-warfare capabilities, including interest in the mobile 3D Nemus radar and the Lanza 3D air-surveillance radar.
