Spy Games in the Alps? Kremlin Fabricates Story of Secret Plot to Replace Zelenskyy

Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) has claimed that a secret meeting to discuss replacing Ukraine’s President took place in the Alps, involving senior Ukrainian officials and Western representatives.
According to Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR), the allegation is a disinformation campaign aimed at destabilizing the country.
The SVR stated that representatives of the United States and the United Kingdom allegedly held talks in the Alps with the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak; the head of Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov; and Ukraine’s ambassador to the UK, Valerii Zaluzhnyi.

The Russian agency claimed that Zaluzhnyi was selected as a presidential candidate during what it described as “secret presidential elections.”
Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence dismissed the statement as false, describing it as a fabricated narrative attributed to SVR director Sergey Naryshkin. According to HUR, the claim is part of an ongoing information operation designed to:
Increase societal tension within Ukraine,
Undermine trust within Ukraine’s military and political leadership,
Shift public focus from the war to political disputes,
Erode national unity and reduce the country’s defensive capacity.
The intelligence agency also noted that this latest operation includes additional false narratives, including allegations of drug trafficking involving a Ukrainian military intelligence officer.
Earlier, Russian-linked accounts circulated a false claim that President Zelenskyy had purchased Hitler’s ceremonial car for $15 million—an allegation debunked by Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, which traced the story to a recently created fake news site.
