Ukraine and Sweden have agreed to deepen cooperation in the development of space technologies for defense needs.

The announcement followed a bilateral meeting between Ukrainian and Swedish delegations, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported on June 12.

During the discussions, the Ukrainian side highlighted its progress in digital transformation and introduced Sweden to the newly established Space Policy Directorate, created within the Ministry of Defense in March 2025.

Ukrainian officials outlined the key space technology needs of the Defense Forces, emphasizing areas where international collaboration could enhance capabilities. The focus, they noted, will be on processing large datasets—many of which are sourced from international partners—rather than scaling domestic hardware production.

The Swedish delegation expressed strong interest in cooperating with Ukraine, citing the country’s valuable experience in modern warfare. Sweden also signaled readiness to support broader regional collaboration by engaging partners such as Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Iceland.

Earlier, Sweden allocated €50 million (approximately $54 million) to two key NATO initiatives designed to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities — the NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine program and the Comprehensive Assistance Package.
