Sweden will allocate €50 million (about $54 million) to two key NATO initiatives aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities, the NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine (NSATU) program and the Comprehensive Assistance Package (NATO CAP).

The announcement was made by Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson ahead of the NATO Defense Ministers’ meeting in Brussels, European Pravda reported on June 5.

“Today, we are announcing from Sweden that we are contributing €50 million to both the NSATU Fund and the NATO CAP,” Jonson said, highlighting Sweden’s focus on supporting Ukraine at the front lines to help Kyiv negotiate from a position of strength.

Jonson also reiterated Sweden’s commitment to NATO’s broader defense investment goals, calling for Alliance members to reach defense spending equivalent to 5% of GDP by 2030 — 3.5% for traditional defense and 1.5% for defense-related investments.

He added that Sweden welcomes commitments from strategic partners, including Ukraine, in defense investment matters, stressing that “supporting Ukraine is truly an investment in our own security.”

Earlier, Sweden had announced a new defense assistance package totaling 4.8 billion kronor (approximately $447 million) to bolster Ukraine’s military capabilities.

As part of the package, 100 million kronor (around $9.3 million) will be allocated for demining efforts, including the procurement of mine detectors, specialized vehicles, and protective equipment. An additional 300 million kronor (approximately $27.9 million) will support the drone coalition through the provision of various types of unmanned aerial vehicles.
