Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to Slovak President Peter Pellegrini’s statement that Russia and Ukraine need to engage in negotiations, with Kyiv potentially making territorial concessions to achieve peace.

“The last time Slovak land was ceded to an aggressor—in the name of peace—it did not turn out well and did not bring peace to either the Slovaks or other nations,” Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi wrote on X.

Pellegrini stated that Ukraine and Russia need to "come to the negotiating table" and that the situation should be viewed "realistically."

“However, it must be said in a completely realistic way, and no one in Europe with normal thinking today thinks that peace can be established without territorial losses for Ukraine,” commented Pellegrini.

At the end of summer, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Russia’s war on Ukraine can only end with the restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and the prevention of future Russian aggression.
