On November 19, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara. During the press conference following the meeting, the two leaders discussed important issues regarding the restoration of peace processes and the exchange of prisoners.

Erdoğan stated that Türkiye believes it is essential to revive the Istanbul process, but with a broader scope, emphasizing the importance of discussing proposals with Russia that could lead to a just peace in Ukraine.

“Turkey is always ready to discuss with Russia proposals that will pave the way for a just peace in Ukraine,” he added.

At the same time, President Zelenskyy pointed out that Russia must understand that “there should be no reward for war, for killings, and there should be no opportunity left in Russia to start another war against Ukraine or any other country in the region.”

He also emphasized that Ukraine is relying on the strength of Turkish diplomacy, as Turkey has a unique understanding in Moscow.

President Zelenskyy further stated that Ukraine is actively working on restoring prisoner exchanges.

“We are trying to resume exchanges, to bring back Ukrainian soldiers and civilians held by Russia, including Crimean Tatars, political and religious prisoners,” he said

Zelenskyy also expressed hope that by the end of the year, significant progress would be made in restoring exchanges and bringing back a large number of prisoners, including children.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy outlined new measures to revive international talks aimed at ending Russia's ongoing full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
