“They Will Do Everything to Cross the Border,” Zelenskyy Says on Russian Troop Buildup Across Multiple Fronts

In a May 27 press briefing, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy detailed ongoing Russian attacks and Ukraine’s defensive successes. He noted that while Russia continues constant offensive actions, it has failed to launch any major operations.
According to a UNITED24 Media correspondent, Zelenskyy noted that Russian forces failed to amass troops on the Sumy front as planned, saying, “They could not concentrate all their forces on the Pokrovske direction to capture Pokrovske.” Despite difficulties, Ukraine pushed Russian troops back by about four kilometers near Kostiantynivka in the last two days. “We had problems, but there were successful battles,” he added.
He emphasized that Russia has not been able to fully withdraw from or reinforce the Pokrovsk area to capture it. With over 50,000 Russian troops amassed near Sumy, Ukraine remains successful, including capturing eight prisoners near Tyotkino in Kursk region.
Zelenskyy warned that Russia “will do everything to cross the administrative border of Dnipropetrovsk region. They want this. So far, they have not succeeded.” He stressed that capturing Pokrovske, as well as Luhansk and Donetsk, “remain their strategic goals set since 2014.”

Regarding the Kursk direction, Zelenskyy said, “Their strongest troops are there to push our forces out and prepare offensive actions on Sumy to build a buffer zone 10 kilometers deep.”
“I think our troops acted correctly. We left one direction and entered another. We have good progress there.”
Addressing Russian offensive in Kherson, Zelenskyy stated: “There are some fantasists who talk about a Kherson offensive across the river. Forcing the river, we understand what it means. Today, it is absolutely impossible.”
He concluded, “We will remain there until the Russians want to end the war or at least take the first step—a ceasefire.”
Earlier, it was reported that Russian forces continue to maintain a presence along the border with Ukraine’s Chernihiv region, putting pressure on Ukrainian troops and preventing the redeployment of units to more active frontlines.
