Three Ukrainian Films Included in Official Longlist for the 97th Academy Awards

The State Film Agency of Ukraine announced that three Ukrainian films have made it into the official longlist for the 97th Oscars, organized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The longlisted films are:

La Palisiada (Philip Sotnychenko, 2023)

Set in 1996, during Ukraine’s early years as an independent state, the film follows a detective and a forensic psychiatrist as they investigate the mysterious murder of a police officer.

Porcelain War (Brendan Bellomo and Slava Leontyev, 2024)

“Porcelain War” explores the lives of Kharkiv-based ceramic artists who chose to remain in their city during Russia’s full-scale war on Ukraine. The film depicts their struggle against fear, while preserving their art and humanity.

Peaceful People (Oksana Karpovych, 2024)

This documentary combines intercepted radio conversations of Russian soldiers with their families and haunting visual depictions of the destruction caused by war.

The 97th Academy Awards ceremony will take place on March 3, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
