“Touchstone of the Ukrainian Art Scene”: Nikita Kadan Makes ArtReview’s Power 100 List

Ukrainian artist Nikita Kadan has been named to the prestigious Power 100 list by the renowned British magazine ArtReview. For the 2025 edition, Kadan ranks 94th among the most influential figures in contemporary global art.
The ranking editors referred to Kadan as the “touchstone of the Ukrainian art scene,” highlighting his focus on themes of history and memory in the context of the ongoing war.

“I’m interested in the notion of history and art history,” he artist said. as quoted by ArtReview. “But I live and work in a country where museums are closed or empty… So there is a contradiction between my interests and my reality that I want to explore.”
Currently, Kadan's works are being showcased in Paris as part of The War Within season, which is dedicated to Ukrainian artists.
In March, Kadan returned to the National Art Museum of Ukraine for a solo exhibition, showcasing his charcoal drawings, sculptures, and sound installations. His work examined Russia’s invasion through a queer and anarchist perspective.
As reported by ArtReview, later this year, the artist is set to create a large-scale installation in Kyiv. His group exhibitions in 2025 include displays at Mumok in Vienna, MSN in Warsaw, and East Contemporary in Milan. However, Japan has notably embraced Kadan's work, building on his participation in the 2024 Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale.
Additionally, it was reported that Kadan will unveil a permanent installation at the Setouchi Triennale, commemorating Japan’s historical treatment of leprosy patients.
Earlier, three Ukrainian artists—Korolova, Artbat, and Miss Monique—earned spots in DJ Magazine's prestigious annual list of the world's Top 100 DJs, as recognized by the renowned British electronic dance music publication.
