The US is to provide Ukraine with intelligence for long-range strikes on Russia’s energy infrastructure, as the Trump administration weighs sending Kyiv powerful weapons such as Tomahawk and Barracuda cruise missiles that could put more targets within Russia in range.

President Donald Trump has authorized US intelligence agencies and the Pentagon to assist Ukraine in targeting Russian infrastructure for long-range missile strikes, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal citing American officials on October 1.

Washington has also urged NATO allies to extend similar support to Kyiv, the officials said.

“The US will provide Ukraine with intelligence for long-range missile strikes on Russia’s energy infrastructure, as the Trump administration weighs sending Kyiv powerful weapons that could put in range more targets within Russia,” the newspaper reported.

The United States has long shared intelligence with Ukraine, but the move marks a significant escalation in military support.

Expanded targeting data would enable Kyiv to hit oil refineries, pipelines, power plants, and other energy facilities to cut into Moscow’s revenue from energy exports—a critical source of funding for its war against Ukraine.

The report noted that the administration is also considering supplying Ukraine with Tomahawk and Barracuda cruise missiles, as well as other US land- and air-launched systems with ranges of up to 800 kilometers, but no final decision has been made on those weapons deliveries.

Earlier, the US special representative to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, said that President Donald Trump has authorized Ukraine to carry out long-range strikes inside Russian territory—though Kellogg added that the Pentagon has, at times, withheld approval for specific missions.
