On August 13, US President Donald Trump said there’s a “very good chance” he will meet Russian leader Vladimir Putin for a second time after their scheduled summit in Anchorage, Alaska, on Friday.

Speaking to reporters at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, Trump explained that the follow-up meeting could occur “almost immediately” if the first one proves productive.

“There’s a very good chance that we’re going to have a second meeting, which will be more productive than the first, because the first is, I’m going to find out where we are and what we’re doing,” Trump said.

“I would like to do it almost immediately, and we’ll have a quick second meeting between Putin and President Zelenskyy and myself, if they’d like to have me there. Certain great things can be gained in the first—it’s going to be a very important meeting, but it’s setting the table for the second meeting.”

Trump rated his virtual call earlier in the day with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders a perfect “10,” reflecting his satisfaction with the discussions.

However, Trump acknowledged his doubts about convincing Putin to stop targeting Ukrainian civilians during their talks.

“I’ve had that conversation with him,” Trump said. “I’ve had a lot of good conversations with him, and then I go home and I see that a rocket hit a nursing home, or a rocket hit an apartment building and people are laying dead in the streets. So I guess the answer to that is no, because I’ve had this conversation.”

On the same day, Zelenskyy and European leaders, organized by Chancellor Friedrich Merz, held a virtual meeting with US President Donald Trump in Berlin ahead of his talks with Russian leader Putin, where they outlined the results of their joint discussion during a press conference.
