Trump Warns Iran of “Far Worse” Strikes if Nuclear Deal Isn’t Agreed as US Armada Approaches

US President Donald Trump warned Iran to quickly negotiate what he called a “fair and equitable” nuclear deal or face a US attack “far worse” than last year’s strikes, after saying a US naval “armada” led by the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln was heading toward the country, according to Reuters on January 28. 

“Hopefully Iran will quickly ‘Come to the Table’ and negotiate a fair and equitable deal - NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS - one that is good for all parties. Time is running out, it is truly of the essence!” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post, Reuters reported.

He added: “The next attack will be far worse! Don’t make that happen again,” while repeating that a US “armada” was moving toward Iran. 

Iran’s mission to the United Nations responded on X by citing the cost of past US wars and warning that Tehran would defend itself.

“Iran stands ready for dialogue based on mutual respect and interests—BUT IF PUSHED, IT WILL DEFEND ITSELF AND RESPOND LIKE NEVER BEFORE!” the mission said.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said he had not been in contact with US special envoy Steve Witkoff in recent days and had not requested negotiations, Reuters added.

Earlier, it was reported that despite a formal strategic partnership with Tehran, Moscow is unlikely to intervene deeply on Iran’s behalf amid US pressure, as Russia prioritizes relations with the US and other strategic concerns.
