US President Donald Trump warned that Iran may have placed mines in the Strait of Hormuz and threatened “a level never seen before” in military consequences if they are not removed, according to his post on Truth Social on March 10.

Trump wrote that there were “no reports” confirming that Iran had deployed mines in the waterway, but added that any such devices should be removed “IMMEDIATELY.” He framed their potential removal as “a giant step in the right direction.”

The post did not provide evidence that mines had been placed in the strait. Trump’s statement described the scenario as possible rather than confirmed, while coupling that warning with a threat of unprecedented military action against Iran if the mines remain in place.

Trump also warned that the US was prepared to use “the same Technology and Missile capabilities deployed against Drug Traffickers” to “permanently eliminate any boat or ship attempting to mine the Hormuz Strait,” escalating his threat against Iran over possible moves in the strategic waterway.

Trump’s warning comes as tensions around the Strait of Hormuz continue to escalate. The United States and Israel launched a coordinated strike campaign inside Iran, hitting military infrastructure and naval facilities as part of an operation dubbed “Roar of the Lion.”

Israeli and US strikes were reported across Tehran and other regions, while Iran closed its airspace and flights were diverted, as both sides braced for retaliatory missile and drone attacks.

The campaign was framed as preempting any Iranian move to mine or shut the Strait of Hormuz, while targeting air defenses to enable sustained operations from air and sea platforms.
