UK and Germany Unite to Hunt Russian Submarines in the North Atlantic

The United Kingdom and Germany are joining forces to hunt Russian submarines in the North Atlantic, deepening defense cooperation under the Trinity House Agreement signed last year, Forces News reported on October 23.

Together, they will conduct anti-submarine operations to counter Russian activity beneath the North Atlantic.
German crews have already worked alongside the RAF at the base as part of NATO’s Baltic Sentry missions, but this marks the first time the allies will coordinate full-scale submarine-hunting operations in UK waters.
Beyond the maritime partnership, London and Berlin also announced expanded cooperation on cybersecurity—enabling the two nations and their NATO allies to securely share data, intelligence, and operational tools in real time through a new cloud-based system designed to resist cyberattacks.
“A year on from the Trinity House Agreement, the UK and Germany are working closer than ever to keep our two countries and Europe safe,” UK Defence Secretary John Healey said.

“Together we’re strengthening NATO, boosting our cyber defenses, and ensuring our armed forces can operate side by side with ease—from patrolling the skies over Scotland to hunting Russian subs in the North Atlantic. This partnership is a cornerstone of European security, demonstrating unity and strength to our adversaries, and keeping us secure at home and strong abroad.”
Earlier, reports emerged that Russia spent more than a decade secretly building an undersea surveillance network in the Arctic using advanced Western technology purchased through shell companies in Europe and Asia.
