UK Commits $3.8 Billion Annually to Support Ukraine’s Defense
The United Kingdom will allocate $3.8 billion (£3 billion) annually to support Ukraine’s defense, according to a draft budget presented to Parliament on October 30.
The draft budget, which proposes some tax hikes and reduced expenditures in other areas, includes a notable increase in defense funding to support Ukraine as well as to bolster the U.K.'s contributions to NATO.
“Today, I am announcing a total increase to the Ministry of Defence’s Budget of £2.9 billion next year, ensuring the U.K. comfortably exceeds our NATO commitments and providing guaranteed military support to Ukraine of £3 billion per year, for as long as it takes,” UK Finance Minister Rachel Reeves said.
This annual support will supplement the recent announcement of a $2.9 billion (£2.26 billion) loan for Ukraine, backed by Russian assets frozen by the UK government.
The UK budget aims to ensure ongoing support for Ukraine and strengthen defense capabilities amid rising international tensions.
Earlier, The United Kingdom announced an additional $155 million (£120 million) in funding for Ukraine’s naval coalition.
