UK to Deliver $308 Million Aid Package to Ukraine at G7 Summit

Authors

At the G7 summit in Italy, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, will announce a new aid package for Ukraine.

Alongside the allocation of $308 million for humanitarian and energy assistance, as well as long-term economic and social recovery and reconstruction, Sunak will assert the UK’s solidarity with Ukraine and its adaptability in addressing pressing needs.

Moreover, discussions will ensue among G7 members regarding the strategic utilization of frozen Russian assets to provide additional support to Ukraine. With approximately $285 billion in Russian assets frozen in G7 jurisdictions, the group will explore all legal avenues to redirect these assets to Ukraine’s advantage, ensuring that Russia faces repercussions for its full-scale invasion.

In total, the UK has allocated nearly $16 billion in military, humanitarian, and economic support for Ukraine to date.

Sunak asserted before the G7 summit that the international community must transition from merely meeting Ukraine’s essential needs to providing whatever support is necessary to bring an end to the ongoing war.
