Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense and the American company Tetra Tech have agreed to jointly train Ukrainian operators of mechanized demining equipment. This was reported by the Defense Ministry on May 6.

The training will take place at the Ukrainian Training and Testing Complex, a specialized facility focused on advancing technologies in demining, civil protection, and environmental safety.

Special focus will be placed on training instructors, mechanized demining equipment operators, and drone specialists who use UAVs to detect explosive hazards.

“The agreement with Tetra Tech is another step toward building a systematic, technology-driven, and resilient training model—one that prepares specialists to operate effectively amid today’s complex threats,” said Colonel Olha Drobot, a representative of the Main Directorate for Mine Action, Civil Protection, and Environmental Safety.

Tetra Tech is a US-based consulting and engineering company that specializes in environmental management, infrastructure development, water resources, energy, and sustainable development.

In Ukraine, Tetra Tech has been particularly active in humanitarian demining, supporting efforts to clear landmines and explosive remnants of war through training, equipment provision, and technical assistance.

On April 8, it was reported that since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, there have been 811 incidents involving civilians due to explosive remnants of war. A total of 1,158 people have been affected, including 335 fatalities. Among the killed are 18 children.
