Ukraine Develops Advanced Anti-Drone Turret Equipped With Neural Network Technology
Ukrainian company Dron ZP has introduced a turret equipped with a 12.7mm machine gun and advanced systems designed to counter drones used by Russian forces.
The technology, tested with the support of the 15th Brigade’s Unmanned Systems Battalion of the National Guard, demonstrated high precision and effectiveness during initial trials. According to a statement by the National Guard on January 12, the turret successfully engaged targets during testing.
The turret is equipped with night vision and neural network elements to enhance targeting accuracy. Operators control the system using a joystick and monitor, ensuring precise engagement of airborne threats. The National Guard noted these features during their official update on the system’s capabilities.
“The control system integrates neural network elements,” National Guard representatives confirmed during the testing phase.
The turret is mounted on a trailer, which requires transportation to deployment sites via standard vehicles. Despite being stationary, the system’s mobility is supported by this transportation method.
The turret underwent successful field tests at a designated range, meeting operational requirements. National Guard representatives indicated that, following necessary refinements, these systems could soon be integrated into Ukraine’s defense lines.
“After additional adjustments, such systems are expected to play a role in bolstering the defensive capabilities of Ukrainian forces,” they added.
In addition to the turret, Dron ZP is also developing mobile ground drones capable of carrying similar turrets or performing evacuation tasks. Last year, volunteers raised funds to procure a ground platform from Dron ZP to support military operations.
Ground drones have been used for several years on the front lines in Ukraine for tasks such as transporting weapons and explosives, remote mining and demining, and evacuating wounded personnel. These technologies aim to minimize direct human involvement in combat scenarios, contributing to the safety of Ukrainian servicemembers.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy chaired a meeting on January 11 to prioritize defense production for 2025, emphasizing record-breaking development of drones, rockets, and artillery. He highlighted the shared responsibility of manufacturers and officials to enhance military capabilities, noting that increased drone procurement is already underway.
