Ukraine Enforces EU’s 19th Sanctions Package Targeting Russian LNG and Arctic Resources

Ukraine officially enacted the 19th package of European Union sanctions against Russia, marking another step in tightening pressure on the Kremlin amid its ongoing full-scale invasion.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the decision in a statement shared on Telegram on November 6.
“I have signed several new sanctions decisions,” Zelenskyy said. “We continue synchronizing our partners’ sanctions within Ukrainian jurisdiction, and starting today, the EU’s 19th sanctions package against Russia for this war comes into effect in Ukraine.”
Zelenskyy added that Ukraine is also working to ensure EU sanctions are mirrored in jurisdictions beyond the bloc. In addition, Ukraine is preparing its own set of restrictions targeting Russian entities involved in Arctic resource extraction.

“This is a very profitable business for Russia,” Zelenskyy explained. “A significant portion of the resources the enemy sells annually is extracted in the Arctic regions—we’re talking about tens of billions of dollars a year. We are working with partners to ensure that, just like with the tanker fleet and Russian oil companies, they also target the full volume of resources sold by Russia from the Arctic.”
The president also confirmed he has instructed the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) to prepare new sanctions targeting entities involved in Russian propaganda, weapons production, sanctions evasion schemes, and collaboration with occupying authorities.
“There will be our sanctions response to the Russian sanctions imposed against the Prime Minister of Ukraine and other government officials,” Zelenskyy added. “Of course, unlike global sanctions, Russian sanctions don’t cause real problems. But at a time when most of the world is trying to end this war, any Russian escalations—including propagandist ones—deserve a proper and tangible response.”
Earlier, it was reported that the European Commission acknowledged the political agreement reached yesterday between the European Parliament and the Council, an action which enables the possibility for Ukraine to be associated with the $8.43 billion European Defense Fund.
