The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has gathered evidence implicating the command of Russian armed groups responsible for the missile strike on Lviv during the night of September 3-4, 2024.

According to Security Service of Ukraine, charges have been filed in absentia against five Russian military officers involved in the attack.

The strike caused significant damage to civilian infrastructure in the UNESCO World Heritage site, particularly in the “Historic Center of Lviv.”

According to SBU, during the airstrike, the Russians used two aeroballistic missiles “Kinzhal” and one cruise missile X-10.

The attack was coordinated by Major General Sergey Kuvaldin, the commander of the Russian Air Force’s Long-Range Aviation. He enlisted his deputy, Colonel Sergey Shevel, to help plan the strike, and tasked the 22nd Heavy Bomber Aviation Division, under Major General Mykola Warpakhovych, to carry out the operation.

The direct order to execute the strike was given to Colonel Oleg Skytisky, commander of the 121st Russian Heavy Bomber Brigade, and Colonel Denis Akhmadeev, head of the 44th Separate Aviation Special Forces Brigade.

All five individuals have been charged in absentia under Part 2 of Article 28 and Part 2 of Article 438 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, for violations of the laws and customs of war, leading to severe consequences.

Earlier, for the first time in Ukraine’s history, a member of the Russian Federation was sentenced to life in prison for executing a captured Ukrainian soldier.
