Ukraine in Talks With Poland for $130M Loan to Buy Polish Defense Weapons

Ukraine is in negotiations with Poland regarding the possibility of receiving a $130 million loan to purchase products from the Polish defense industry.
This was stated by Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha in an interview with Ukrinform on August 4.
According to Sybiha, during his recent meeting with the Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, the two discussed Ukraine’s interest in several Polish-made weapons systems and the potential to finance these purchases through a loan.
As examples of weaponry that has already proven effective on the battlefield, Sybiha mentioned Poland’s Piorun man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS) and Krab self-propelled howitzers.
“It is obvious that in a country at war, there can never be enough weapons. That’s why, of course, we will also discuss co-production, both in Ukraine and in Poland. This is a shared interest, a mutually beneficial interest, and a contribution to our common future,” Ukraine’s foreign minister emphasized.
Earlier, Polish state-owned arms manufacturer Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ) expressed readiness to produce Ukrainian-designed weapons on Polish soil, aiming to strengthen both security cooperation and long-term strategic ties.
PGZ Vice President Jan Grabowski said the company is open to various forms of collaboration, including domestic manufacturing of Ukrainian weaponry in Poland under secure conditions.
Grabowski noted that PGZ is considering these options within the framework of the EU’s Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform, which provides funding opportunities for defense industrial cooperation across Europe.
