Ukraine's MFA Responds to Polish Deputy PM's Claim of Efforts to Draw Poland Into War With Russia
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine responded to the statement by Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister regarding the alleged intention of Zelenskyy to draw Warsaw into a war with Russia.
The Ministry called these claims from the Polish side unfounded, stating that “the downing of Russian missiles and drones heading toward Poland over Ukrainian territory, rather than over Poland itself, aligns with the security interests of Poland and its citizens.”
“In a broader context, we remind that Russia is waging war not only against Ukraine but also against the European security architecture as a whole, of which Poland is an important part. Countering Russian aggression against Ukraine is a vital interest for Poland,” MFA wrote.
The Ministry added: “Given the numerous provocations, cyberattacks, and violations of Polish and other European countries' sovereign airspace by Russian missiles and drones, it is, at the very least, inappropriate to suggest that Ukraine seeks to draw Poland or other countries into the war. The facts indicate the opposite: Ukraine’s resistance prevents the war from expanding and averts potential military threats to Poland.”
“We are convinced that, in the face of ongoing Russian aggression, it is essential to maintain and strengthen solidarity between Ukraine and Poland. This is the aim of the Ukrainian government's policy. We expect that the Polish government shares this goal,” MFA concluded.
Previously, Polish Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for his desire to intercept Russian missiles and drones in Ukrainian airspace. According to Gawkowski, this would mean that “Poland would be drawn into a war with Russia.”
Earlier on November 5, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stated that the issue of intercepting missiles over Ukrainian airspace by NATO member countries might be raised at the upcoming ministerial meeting.
