Ukraine’s defense industry will be able to take part in European Union defense projects on equal terms with the defense sectors of EU member states, as part of the EU’s newly announced security initiative SAFE (Security Action for Europe).

European Commissioner for Economy Valdis Dombrovskis confirmed this during a press briefing in Kyiv, Ukrinform reports on March 20.

He reminded that the European Commission had recently unveiled the ReArm Europe Plan and the broader Readiness 2030 initiative. These efforts aim to mobilize up to €800 billion over the next 40 years to bolster Europe’s defense capabilities.

“We look forward to discussions on this package, and I hope decisions will be taken and readiness expressed to move this initiative forward,” Dombrovskis said.

He also focused on the SAFE program, which includes €150 billion in funding, noting that Ukraine’s defense industry will be able to participate in projects alongside EU military industries on equal footing.

“In this way, we are integrating Ukraine into this mechanism to strengthen the EU’s defense capacity,” he emphasized.

According to Dombrovskis, defense and continued support for Ukraine will also be key topics at the upcoming EU summit in Brussels, scheduled for March 20.

Previously, it was reported that the European Union officially presented the White Paper on European Defense – Readiness 2030, outlining a comprehensive strategy to strengthen European defense capabilities and address security challenges.
