Ukraine Launches Hotline for Kursk Region Residents Seeking Evacuation
Ukraine is preparing for the possible arrival of refugees from the Kursk region. To address this, the Ukrainian Ministry of Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories has established a 24-hour hotline.
This announcement was made by Minister of Reintegration Iryna Vereshchuk, who emphasized Ukraine’s commitment to international humanitarian law and its readiness to provide necessary protection and support to the civilians of the Kursk region.
Vereshchuk stated that residents of the Kursk region in need of humanitarian aid or seeking evacuation to Ukraine can now submit applications through the newly launched hotline.
“In connection with the possible deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the adjacent territories of the Kursk region of the Russian Federation, Ukraine should be ready to receive Russian refugees. That is why the Ministry of Reintegration has opened a 24-hour hotline for residents of Kursk region who need humanitarian aid or want to evacuate to Ukraine,” Vereshchuk said.
Earlier, on August 14, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting to discuss the situation in the Kursk region, focusing on security, humanitarian aid, and the possible establishment of military command posts if necessary.
During the meeting, Vereshchuk noted that in areas of the Kursk region now under Ukrainian military control, Russian civilians remain in need of humanitarian assistance.
On August 12, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy officially stated that Ukraine is conducting an operation in the Kursk region of Russia. According to the latest data, Ukraine was controlling 74 settlements, about 1,000 km² of the territory of the Russian Federation. Zelenskyy has also stated that hundreds of Russian soldiers surrendered to Ukrainian forces.
