Ukraine Offers Drone Warfare Expertise as EU Launches Eastern “Drone Wall” Defense Plan

Ukraine is ready to join the EU’s “drone wall” project, Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal confirmed after a meeting with EU defense ministers on September 26, he wrote in a Telegram post.
This project aims to enhance anti-drone defense along the eastern flank of Europe, an initiative propelled by the EU to respond to Russian provocations.
EU Commissioner for Defense and Space, Andrius Kubilius, stated that the initiative has moved from conceptual discussions to concrete actions. The “drone wall” will serve as a crucial defensive shield for all of Europe, particularly against Russia’s repeated violations of airspace, DW reported on September 26.

The next step is to create a technical roadmap, mobilize Europe’s defense industry, and secure funding to implement the system, which will include cutting-edge capabilities for detection, tracking, and interception.
Minister Shmyhal emphasized Ukraine’s readiness to participate, noting that the country is a recognized leader in unmanned aerial technology. “We are prepared to share our experience in downing Russian drones with the EU, NATO, and neighboring countries,” he said, adding that Ukrainian manufacturers would also be involved, offering innovative, battle-tested solutions.
Shmyhal also expressed hopes for a joint declaration to be signed with EU partners in October. He confirmed that Ukraine is ready to send technical teams to help prepare the drone defense groups.
Previously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk agreed to exchange expertise in countering Russian drones, as they discussed the growing threat to Ukraine and NATO’s eastern flank.
