Ukraine Outlines New Defense Priorities in The Hague: Long-Range Weapons, Drones, Air Defense

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha met with European Commissioner for Defense Andrius Kubilius in The Hague to present Ukraine’s current defense priorities on June 24.
Sybiha shared details of the meeting on X, noting that the talks focused on the next steps to strengthen the defense capabilities and self-reliance of both Ukraine and Europe.
“I informed Commissioner about Ukraine's defense priorities, which include long-range capabilities, interceptor drones, and the national air defense system program,” Sybiha said.
He underscored the importance of the EU’s new instruments SAFE and EDIP, emphasizing the need to leverage them to boost Ukraine’s defense industry.

“Ukraine now possesses exceptional capabilities, R&D expertise , and unique battle-tested technologies. We agreed to further coordinate closely and work together to scale up Ukraine’s strength,” Sybiha added.
On May 27, the EU General Affairs Council approved the SAFE instrument, which allows for up to $170 billion in borrowing to invest in the defense industries of member states. Under SAFE, Ukraine’s defense sector will be able to participate on equal footing with EU defense companies.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer have agreed to expand military cooperation through a three-year joint production program for battlefield technologies and to bolster Ukraine’s air defences with interceptor and long-range drones.
